In an unprecedented show of regional unity, every mayor across Eastern Denmark and Lolland-Falster have formally urged the Danish government to consider Rødbyhavn as the site for Denmark’s future naval shipbuilding hub.
With national plans to construct at least 26 new vessels on Danish soil, local leaders argue that Eastern Denmark not only has the space but has the people, infrastructure, and industrial readiness to deliver.
This is more than a political signal. It’s a concrete opportunity for first movers to gain early access to a strategically backed, infrastructure-rich industrial zone with direct alignment to national priorities.
Lolland Mayor Holger Schou Rasmussen puts it clearly: “We in Eastern Denmark can help solve a national capacity challenge and give the Defense a proven, highly functional production site. This isn’t just about defense—it’s about long-term growth across the region.”
His sentiment is echoed across the region. Steen Christiansen, Mayor of Albertslund, emphasizes the talent and institutional strength in the east: “The Copenhagen area has the expertise, Zealand offers the industrial capacity, and Lolland-Falster brings a skilled workforce that’s already in place.”
And from Mikael Smed, Mayor of Vordingborg: “For national security, we must avoid centralising defence production in just one port. Rødbyhavn provides a strong, resilient alternative.”
Joining this chorus, Simon Hansen, Mayor of Guldborgsund, added in a recent discussion: “We see a national-scale opportunity here. Eastern Denmark has the people, the experience, and the drive to transform Rødbyhavn into a shipbuilding powerhouse.”
This political alignment unlocks an environment where businesses and investors are not only welcomed but they’re encouraged, supported, and prioritized.
For companies operating in defense, logistics, construction, or heavy industry, the message is clear: Rødbyhavn offers more than industrial space; it offers a strategic platform backed by government, powered by existing talent, and positioned at the center of Europe’s new infrastructure corridor.
At Invest in Lolland-Falster, we’re ready to guide early-stage partners through every step: from site visits and municipal contacts to project matchmaking and co-financing pathways.
If your business is looking to grow with purpose, now is the time to explore Rødbyhavn.
