Northeast Falster on the Rise:
Development Projects Set to Become Reality

<< Back to NEWS

Northeast Falster is entering an exciting phase of development. With new multi-million-kroner agreements, updated coastal tourism rules, and a shared local vision for Vores Nordøstfalster, the region is well-positioned to strengthen its role as a destination for tourism and investment.

A Common Vision for East Falster

In April, the joint vision Vores Nordøstfalster was adopted. The vision includes several concrete development projects, such as upgrading the harbors in Hesnæs and Stubbekøbing, with the aim of turning them into central tourist attractions. In June, the municipal council decided to take over Hesnæs Harbor, an important step toward bringing the vision to life.

A New Declaration of Intent

Guldborgsund Kommune, Falsters Kyst, and Corselitze Gods signed a joint declaration of intent. With this agreement, all partners commit to contributing actively to the development of Northeast Falster and to supporting the area’s unique tourism potential.

  • The municipality will focus on renovating and operating Hesnæs Harbor, as well as strengthening infrastructure and fundraising efforts.
  • Corselitze Gods will contribute through investments in housing and holiday apartments and by taking part in upcoming nature projects.
  • Falsters Kyst will support the development of accommodation capacity, take part in harbor activities, and build on the success of Pomle Nakke as a visitor destination.

Recovery and Tourism Growth

These new commitments come alongside wider investments in the region, including the recently announced 75 million kroner development agreement and new municipal decisions that allow for expanded tourism construction in coastal areas. Together, these initiatives mark a turning point in East Falster’s growth, turning earlier challenges, such as coastal damage, into opportunities for renewal and sustainable development.

Natural and Cultural Strengths

East Falster has a strong base to build on. With sandy beaches, nearby forests, and recreational harbors, the region offers a variety of outdoor activities. The wider Lolland-Falster area has more than 600 kilometers of coastline (Visit Lolland-Falster), making it one of Denmark’s most attractive coastal regions. Cultural highlights, such as Maribo’s historic town center and local gastronomy, further strengthen the region’s tourism offer.

The development of East and Northeast Falster is moving forward step by step. With shared commitments, major investments, and strong natural attractions, the region is creating new opportunities for citizens, businesses, and visitors. The result will be lasting value for the local community and a stronger position for East Falster on Denmark’s tourism map.
