The German houseboat manufacturer STERN Hausboot wanted to establish a production facility aimed at the Scandinavian market.
Business Lolland-Falster prepared a development plan with local options for locations and production halls. STERN Hausboot’s management was invited on an inspection trip, where dialog was established and facilitated with relevant authorities and private players. Business Lolland-Falster alsomatched the company with local and national funding sources.
STERN Hausboot established their Danish subsidiary in Bandholm with plans to start production. The owners decided to scale up production capacity. In this connection, STERN Hausboot searched a number of locations in the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. They succeeded in keeping the company in Lolland-Falster, buying up a production facility in Orehoved with the expectation of creating 70-100 local jobs.
Lolland-Falster has enormous untapped tourism potential in terms of overnight capacity. It is strategically important to attract companies that can see the opportunities and have the ability to contribute to an upscaling of the region’s accommodation capacity. The Femern tunnel will create increased trade and labor across the border, and attracting German-owned companies is an important element in the forward-facing Danish/German business cooperation across the Femern region.
